“Concerning Workplace Interaction & Lack of Professionalism I am writing as a patient who would prefer to remain anonymous, but I feel compelled to share what I witnessed during a recent visit to this office. I observed a staff member attempted to explain to a therapist, who had been identified as Shannon; her experience with a patient that she assisted and how other situations that are similar are like this and has affected her, including from a racial perspective as a black woman. Shannon responded by chuckling and laughing during the conversation. Rather than listening with empathy or professionalism, the situation was dismissed as being about the employee’s “behavior.” As someone who has been in this office multiple times, I have consistently observed this employee to be kind, soft-spoken, respectful, and professional. The behavior I witnessed in that moment did not reflect someone being inappropriate—it reflected someone advocating for herself after being disregarded and handling the situation accordingly in a professional manner. Additionally, there were comments made that came across as dismissive and intimidating, rather than supportive or solution-oriented. The employee’s attempt to express her lived experience was not acknowledged and was instead compared to other individuals, which felt inappropriate—especially coming from individuals who are not in a position to speak on that experience. What stood out most to me was how the therapist was threatening the job security to the employee. She stated that if she took action that this employee would lose her job. Shannon displayed such lack of empathy and professionalism during this interaction. The staff member was visibly upset and ultimately left the office in tears. No employee should be made to feel dismissed, laughed at, or unsupported in their workplace—regardless of their role or background. As a patient, this was extremely uncomfortable to witness. The behavior displayed was distasteful and not reflective of a respectful or supportive healthcare environment. I hope this is taken seriously and addressed appropriately.”

“My experience with this psychiatric group has not been the greatest, however, Michelle E. is an office staff member in Lake Worth and Delray and she is the ONLY employee that I have had contact with, who has been so kind, helpful, willing to actually listen to me as a patient, which, even some of the actual doctors don't even do. She has been the BEST person I have worked with in the entire practice and she deserves ALL the recognition in the world. Thank you Michelle, for just being who you are!
