“Ketamine has changed my life. That’s the simplest and truest thing I can say. More precisely, it gave me my life *back* after repeated failed attempts over a 10 month stretch with pharmaceutical modalities. In short: the pills almost killed me. Ketamine brought me back. I have more access to joy, optimism, perspective, gratitude, and forgiveness than I’ve had in years. I still have sad periods. Of course I do. Life be life. But they don’t drag out into weeks and months. I don’t spin in the whirlpool of despair. I feel what I’m feeling and bounce back to neutral (or better). The clinic itself: dentist officey. It could be warmer. There could be more privacy. Also more community. But it’ll do. It’s pristine. Sterile. Safe. The way it’s done here is: two nurses oversee the whole show, one of whom was a doctor in her country of origin. I feel absolutely secure in my physical safety with them. You get two needles. One IV and one SubQ (back of the arm). Blood pressure cuff on the other arm. Then you get cozy in your recliner under a blanket and vibe for 2 hours. It’s intense. Especially if you don’t have experience with psychedelics. You’ll be dopey after. It’s a bit ungrounding in the moment. The effects are not like psilocybin, for those wanting to compare. It’s a much more chemical, faster bullet train. It’s dissociative. And heavy. None of the frolicsome levity of shrooms. But it’s not really about the quality of the trip, or the visit to the non ordinary world. It’s about getting the medicine into the body where it works on glutamate and neural plasticity. I’ve been going consistently for about a year now and I’m incredibly grateful to delray center for making this resource available, and for working with me around insurance support to help make it financially accessible. May everyone who might benefit from this medicine have access to it. 🙏🏽”
